“In the News” wins honorable mention at the Fresh Art show in Marin County.

Joelle Burnette’s painting “In the News” took fourth place at the Fresh Art show sponsored by the Marin Society of Artists and judged by Rene de Guzman, senior curator of the Oakland Museum of California.

Nearly 200 pieces, out of hundreds more, were selected for the show featuring artists throughout California. Joelle had two pieces selected: “Sailing,” an oils on canvas, and her winning piece, “In the News,” that took fourth place with honorable mention. The show offered only four prizes.

Because of the late hour of the reception and the time difference from the West Coast to the East, Joelle didn’t want to awaken her parents. She sent an e-mail to her mom with the photo of her standing with her winning entry and here was her response in this morning’s response:

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mom

Later, during this morning’s call, Arlene expressed how proud she was of her daughter’s achievement in the prestigious show.

If you live in the area of Marin County, stop by the gallery at the Marin Art & Garden Center to see the show running through August 3, 2013.
